Obituary for Ted Monkus

Ted  Monkus
Ted Monkus, 89, of Dawsonville passed away Sunday July 31, 2016 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a period of declining health.
Born October 29, 1926 in Haysville, NC to the late Charlie and Leila Monkus, he had lived in Dawson County for the past 52 years having moved from Fannin County. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Monkus held various occupations including operating a restaurant at Big Canoe. He was a U. S. Army veteran of WW II where he served in the European Theater and received a Purple Heart. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dawsonville and was also preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Mary Monkus; daughter, Carol Crumbley; two sisters and four brothers.
Surviving are his children, Barbara and Jerry Dotson, Ellijay, Billy and Joyce Monkus, Dawsonville, Roy Monkus, Dawsonville, Michael Monkus, Ellijay, Deborah and Allen Foster, Ellijay, Fredia and Ronnie Casper, Dawsonville; 18 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and a great great granddaughter.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday August 3, 2016 at 11 o’clock at Whitfield Memorial Gardens, 710 West Cuyler Street, Dalton, GA 30720. Dr. Scott Gilbert will officiate.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4 until 8 at the funeral home.
