Obituary for Loy D. Hughes

Loy D. Hughes, 88, of Monroe passed away Monday May 16, 2016 at Great Oaks Senior Living following a period of declining health.
Born September 13, 1927 in Dawson County to the late Hubert and Era Hughes, he lived many years in Lilburn. For 35 years, Mr. Hughes served as manager of the S & W Cafeteria on Peachtree Street in Atlanta. He was a U. S. Army veteran of WW II and was an active member of the American Legion Post #232 in Snellville. A member of Harmony Baptist Church, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Lamar “Jake” Hughes and Dennis Hughes.
Surviving are his wife, Ann Hughes; children, Loy D. Jr., and Sharon Hughes, Monroe, Jerry and Connie Hughes, Arab, AL, Terrye and Mike Moon, Lynn Haven, FL; six grandchildren, three great grandchildren, brother, Douglas Hughes, Dahlonega.
Funeral services will be held Saturday May 21, 2016 at 2 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Jason Hamby will officiate. Interment will follow in the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1 o’clock until the funeral hour.
