Obituary for Thomas F. "Tom" Foley

Thomas F. “Tom” Foley, 77, of Dawsonville passed away Friday February 2, 2018 following a period of declining health.
Born August 26, 1940 in Pennsylvania to the late Eugene T. and Mary Foley, he lived in Marietta and purchased a lake home in Dawson County in 1986. He became a full time resident eighteen years ago. Mr. Foley was a former high school teacher and basketball coach. After teaching he became the Director of Marketing for McGraw-Hill Publishing for thirty years and then served as Senior Vice-President of Computer Curriculum Corporation until his retirement. Tom served on the Dawson County Board of Elections for 18 years and was Co-Chairman of the Dawson County Democratic Party. He was an avid college basketball fan and attended the final four for many years. He also enjoyed tennis and boating. A member of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, he was also preceded in death by a son, Thomas P. Foley.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Jeanne Foley, Dawsonville; children, Linda Lackey, Dawsonville, Maureen and Jack Jones, Harrisburg, NC, Terry and Cindy Foley, Suwanee; grandchildren, Nicole Goldsmith, Erica Lackey, J. B. Jones, Tori Jones, Lauren Dwyer, Easton Foley, Erin Foley; three great grandchildren; sister and brother in law, Ann and Steve Renninger, Kennesaw; brother and sister in law, Richard “Dick” and Rachelle Foley, Binghamton, NY; and a number of other relatives.
Memorial services will be held Friday February 9, 2018 at 11 o’clock at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church. Fr. Brian Higgins will officiate.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.
