George F. Henderson, 87, of Cumming, formerly of Dawsonville, passed away peacefully on Saturday August 4, 2018.
Born August 20, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Charles F. and Bessie Henderson, he grew up in Rome, Georgia and has lived in this area for 16 years having moved from Knoxville, TN. Mr. Henderson retired as a mechanic for Eastern Airlines following 17 years of service. George was a proud U. S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed fishing, wood working, reading, crossword puzzles, spending time on his computer building websites and enjoyed his Facebook friends. George was also preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Barbara Sue Henderson; son in law, Matthew Van Vliet; grandsons, Brian Hawkins, Kevin Beall; great granddaughter, Laura Leigh Brooks; sister, Ethel Gribble; and brothers, Ed Henderson and Charles Henderson.
Surviving are his children, Donna and Don Owen, Cumming, Cathy Abbott, Cumming, Bruce and Louanne Henderson, Cumming, Gina Van Vliet, Dawsonville; grandchildren, Krista and David Howland, Danielle and Micha Purvis, Justin and Tiffany Owen, Jessica and Robbie Blackwell, Derek Henderson, Dustin and Tanisha Henderson, Jason and Carolyn Wingate, Evan and Holly Wingate, Sean Tucker, Daniel and Elizabeth Van Vliet, Jennifer Van Vliet; and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday August 7, 2018 at 3 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Daniel C. Ippolito will officiate. Interment will follow in Dawsonville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1 p.m. until 3 at the funeral home.
