Obituary for Cecil Lyman Bennett

Cecil Lyman  Bennett
Cecil Lyman Bennett, 79, of Dawsonville passed away Monday July 30, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born April 15, 1939 to the late Laina Bennett and Gladys Jenkins Bennett, he was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. Cecil retired from Vineland Labs following 37 years of service after which he became a Community Liaison at Walmart where many will remember his warm wit and friendly smile. Mr. Bennett’s civic contributions included serving on the Dawson County Board of Commissioners and serving 25 years on the Dawson County Board of Education. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for 51 years as well as numerous other church positions and responsibilities. Cecil considered his greatest accomplishment and main source of happiness his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Troy Lane Bennett, and son in law, Bobby Bagby.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Sandra Tatum Bennett, Dawsonville; children, Teresa and Phillip Burt, Dawsonville, Penny Bagby, Zeeland, Michigan, Russ and Susan Bennett, Dawsonville; grandchildren, Lauren and Blake Samples, Raina and Kyle Baker, Mallory and Jimmy Bayer, Chelsea Bagby, Ben Bagby, Jake Bennett, Eli Bennett; great grandchildren, Lainey Baker, Silas Baker, Peyton Samples, Gracelyn Baker; brothers and sisters in law, Wayne and Diane Bennett, Flowery Branch, Ricky and Kathy Bennett, Dawsonville brothers in law and sisters in law, Jack Tatum, Charles and Judy Tatum, Deborah and Ron Storey, John Tatum; and a host of other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Friday August 3, 2018 at 2 o’clock at Liberty Baptist Church. Rev. Dennis Bottoms, Rev. Phillip Burt, and Rev. Stephen Davis will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 1 until 8 at the funeral home.
