Obituary for Lt. Col. US Army Retired, George William Brookshire

Lt. Col. US Army Retired, George William  Brookshire
Lieutenant Colonel (US Army Retired) George William Brookshire, 86, of Dawsonville passed away Tuesday March 20, 2018 at his residence.
Bill was born July 28, 1931 in Hoschton, Georgia to the late William L. and Clarice Holland Brookshire. The family lived in Winterville and Madison, GA and he was a 1948 graduate of Madison High School. In the fall of 1948 he entered North Georgia College in Dahlonega and upon graduation in 1952 he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Infantry. He later transferred to the Signal Corps and served overseas tours in the Canal Zone, Korea, Vietnam and Germany as well as many different assignments throughout the United States. In 1971 he graduated from Command and General Staff College. His awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Stars, Meritorious Service Medals, Air Medal and Army Commendation Medals. Bill earned the Combat Infantryman Badge during the Korean Conflict. He was an Eagle Scout and spent much of his military life working with Scouting on various posts where he was stationed. Also preceding him in death were his sons, Kirk William Brookshire, Jeffrey Meyer Brookshire, Timothy George Brookshire; and his brother, James Holland Brookshire.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Jane Moser Brookshire; daughter, Sarah Clarice Brookshire, Gainesville; daughters in law, Cynthia Brookshire, Dawsonville, Kimberly Brookshire, Henderson, MD; and grandchildren, Shannon Clarice Brookshire, William Jeffrey Brookshire, Emily Christine Brookshire, and Amy Katherine Brookshire.
Funeral services will be held Monday March 26, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. at the Georgia National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Corps of Cadets, through the UNG Foundation-Dahlonega, P. O. Box 1599, Dahlonega, GA 30533.
