Obituary for Marie Ann Luranc

Marie Ann Luranc, 79, of Dawsonville passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2018 in her home following a brief illness.
Marie was born in Utica, New York in 1938, the first child and only daughter of Dante and Rose D’Amelio. She spent her first 14 years on the family’s dairy farm in Frankfurt, New York where her beautiful baby face was featured on D’Amelio Dairies’ milk label. Along with her younger brother, John, and many cousins, Marie attended a one-room schoolhouse on the family farm property.
After Marie’s family moved to Utica, Marie graduated from Proctor High School. Marie was a private executive secretary with GE and Company, where she met the love of her life, John Luranc. They were married June 10, 1961. They lived in Utica, where their first child, a son, Joseph was born. They then moved to Ormond Beach, Florida with GE in 1965 for two years then returned back to Syracuse, New York where their second child and daughter, Susan, was born. In 1979, the family moved back to Ormond Beach, Florida until 1983. The family then moved to Barrington, Illinois where Marie worked as a secretary at Barrington High School. Upon John’s retirement from FMC Corporation, Marie and John spent five years at the University of Illinois in Champagne, IL. They then moved to their mountain retreat in Mars Hill, North Carolina for several years and finally retired to their current residence in Dawsonville, GA.
Known for her abundant energy and loving spirit, Marie channeled her love toward everyone she encountered. She never knew a stranger, often making lifelong friends through chance encounters. Her family basked in that love shown through her wonderful hugs, delicious food, and precious gifts so lovingly selected. She taught others to love through her loyal friendship and service to others. She was confirmed in the Catholic Church and served God faithfully through her volunteer and time including the gardening club for the church, prolife, and loving stitches ministries. Marie was a Master Gardener, hiker, knitter, and reader. She loved spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren.
Marie is survived by her husband of 56 years, John Luranc; their two children: Joseph John Luranc and wife, Florence; and Susan Luranc Kurtz and husband, Bob; six grandchildren: Louisa Trippe Luranc, Joseph John Luranc, Jr., Samuel Hutson Luranc, Luke Thomas Kurtz, Alexandra “Lexi” Marie Kurtz, and Andrew John “AJ” Kurtz; her brother, John Anthony D’Amelio and wife Sharon; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews dear to her.
