Obituary for Leonard Shoemake

Leonard  Shoemake
Leonard Shoemake, 76, of Dawsonville passed away Thursday September 28, 2017 at his residence following an extended illness.
Born May 22, 1941 to the late Roy and Ila Shoemake, Leonard had been a resident of Dawsonville for almost 30 years coming from Forsyth County. He was a member of Settendown Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. For many years he worked as a truck driver for North Georgia Rendering, and also worked at Liberty Middle School in Cumming as a custodian until his retirement. Leonard enjoyed fishing and building things but most of all loved antique cars. A loving husband and father, he will be greatly missed. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Vonnie Shoemake; sister, Lerlene Shoemake; grandson, Brandon Parker.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Evelyn Weaver Shoemake, Dawsonville; daughters and sons in law, Rita and Wayne Bennett, Cumming, Karen and Mark Parker, Dawsonville, Donna and Michael Barnett, Dawsonville; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters, Christine West, Clermont, Bonnie Holloway, Dawsonville; a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Sunday October 1, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Harold Evans and Rev. Kyle Lamb will officiate. Interment will follow in the Dawsonville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday September 30 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m.
