Obituary for Travis Neal Norman

Travis Neal  Norman
Travis Neal Norman, 78, of Dawsonville passed away Wednesday October 1, 2014 at his residence following a period of declining health.
Born May 22, 1936 in Ethridge, Tennessee to the late Floyd and Bertie Mae Norman, he had lived in Dawson County for the past 27 years having moved from New Jersey. Mr. Norman retired from corporate security with AT&T after 33 years of service. A talented musician, Neal devoted much of his time playing Gospel Bluegrass music at churches and various venues and jams. In November of 2003 he was inducted into the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame. He was a member of the Gideons and served on their State Cabinet for 12 years and served as President for 3 years. He traveled to 3 countries to share Bibles and God’s word. Neal was the chairman of the deacon board at Lighthouse Baptist Church and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Chris Carol Ethridge; sister, Opal; and brothers, Glenn, Ray, Buel, and Dewey.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Jo Ann Norman, Dawsonville; daughters and son in law, Patricia Walters, Cumming, Dot and Dale Mestemaker, Canton, Susan Norman Garg, Palm Beach Gardens, FL; grandchildren, Michele, Kim, Trip, Cassie, Trey, Audrey, Ethan, Ajay; and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday October 4, 2014 at 1 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Charles Blackstock and Trip Walters will officiate. Interment will follow in Sawnee View Gardens.
The family will receive friends Friday from 5 until 8 and Saturday from 10 a.m. until the funeral hour at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Gideons.
