Neil Brian Nix, 76, of Dawsonville passed away Monday May 28, 2012 at Embracing Hospice following an extended illness.
Born July 14, 1935 in College Park, Georgia to the late Lanice and Mattie Nix, he had lived in Dawson County for the past 16 years having moved from Stone Mountain. Neil was Vice President of Piping & Equipment Company in Lithonia, GA. Mr. Nix was an avid golfer who also enjoyed traveling, watching the Atlanta Braves, Falcons and Georgia Tech football. Devoted to his family, he loved spending time with his three grandchildren and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dawsonville. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Ann Smallwood, and brothers, Bob Nix, Clyde Nix, and Richard Nix.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Jan Nix, Dawsonville; children, Laura and Robert VanLeuven, Cumming, Brian and Jessica Nix, Cumming; grandchildren, Mackenzie VanLeuven, Evan Nix, Jackson Nix; sister and brother in law, Madeline and Larry Lester, West Palm Beach, FL; brothers and sisters in law, Gene and Marge Nix, Dacula, Riley and Annette Nix, Stone Mountain; and a number of other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Thursday May 31, 2012 at 11 o’clock at the First Baptist Church of Dawsonville. Dr. Jim Gaines will officiate. Interment will follow in Sawnee View Gardens.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.
